Sporting 27.9 : Marco Caneira and Marat Izmailov are both ruled out of Saturday's Lisbon derby at Benfica. Russia midfielder Izmailov limped out of Sporting's 2-0 Liga win against Belenenses on 20 September because of a right knee complaint, while Portugal defender Caneira has a problem affecting the pubic bone.
Benfica 23.9 : Benfica will be without striker David Suazo for at least two weeks. The 29-year-old Honduran international suffered a thigh injury in last week's 3-2 UEFA Cup defeat at Napoli, but stayed on the pitch because Benfica had used their three substitutions. Suazo, a season's loan from Inter Milan, is forced to sit out the Lisbon derby this weekend against Sporting and could also miss the return leg of the UEFA Cup tie with Napoli on October 2.
Braga 11.9 : Braga will be without central defender Paulo Jorge until the beginning of 2009 after the 28-year-old underwent surgery in an attempt to heal a fractured bone in his right foot sustained in pre-season training. Paulo Jorge is expected to be sidelined for six months. He is the latest name added to Braga's injury list which includes Andres Madrid and Vandinho, both of whom are nursing right thigh problems, and Bruno Tiago, who is recovering from a broken leg.
Benfica 28.8 : Benfica have strengthened their squad for the new season by signing Honduran international striker David Suazo on a season's loan from Inter. The 28-year-old arrives in Lisbon 12 months after he moved to the Italian champions from Cagliari. Suazo was limited to nine Serie A starts with Inter last term, although he did make another 18 league appearances from the bench, scoring eight goals.
Braga 14.8 : Braga have announced the signing of Colombia striker Wason Renteria on loan from Porto for one season. The 23-year-old joined Porto from Brazil's Internacional in January 2007 and made six league appearances before being loaned to Strasbourg last season. Despite nine goals in 28 matches Renteria was unable to prevent them losing their Ligue 1 status.
Benfica 9.8 : Jose Antonio Reyes has joined Benfica on a one-year loan from Atletico de Madrid with the option of a permanent move. The 24-year-old Spanish international forward played for Sevilla, Arsenal and Real Madrid before joining Atletico last season. Reyes has scored four goals in 21 appearances for Spain, but has not played for the national team since 2006. He is the fourth signing by Benfica's new Spanish coach Quique Sanchez Flores, following midfielder Pablo Aimar from Real Zaragoza, Javier Balboa from Real Madrid and Carlos Martins from Recreativo Huelva.
Setubal 7.8 : Setubal have completed the signing of Brazilian striker Leandro Carrijo from Mineiro for an undisclosed fee. The 22-year-old has put pen to paper on a one-year contract with the option of a further year. "I am here to do the same I did in Brazil, to score goals," said Leandro.
Guimar. 7.8 : Guimaraes have bolstered their squad ahead of the UEFA Champions League third qualifying round by recruiting Benfica duo Nuno Assis and Luis Filipe. Attacking midfielder Nuno Assis, 30, returns to Guimaraes on a three-year contract for an undisclosed fee, having originally left the club for Benfica in January 2005. The 29-year-old right-back Luis Filipe, who can also play in midfield, joins Guimaraes on a season-long loan.
