Buffalo 6.10 : Trent Edwards went down with a concussion during Sunday's game against the Arizona Cardinals, and the Bills' unbeaten record went with him. Safety Adrian Wilson blitzed untouched and leveled the quarterback, slamming him to the ground. Edwards, who had directed Buffalo to a 4-0 record, lay on the ground for several minutes before being helped to the sideline.
NY Giant 5.10 : Wide receiver Domenik Hixon and offensive tackle Kareem McKenzie were forced to leave the Giants' game against the Seattle Seahawks in the first half with concussions. Hixon, who was starting for the suspended Plaxico Burress, was hurt late in the second quarter after taking a helmet-to-helmet hit from cornerback Josh Wilson. Meanwhile, Seattle wide receiver Deion Branch, who was playing for the first time this season, had to leave the game with a foot injury and cornerback Kelly Jennings left with a first-half concussion.
Baltimore 4.10 : Ravens starting cornerback Samari Rolle underwent neck surgery this week and will be sidelined at least a month. He suffered a stinger in a 28-10 victory Sept. 21 over the Cleveland Browns after intercepting a pass. "It was all kind of related from a stinger perspective. That was what he felt, the tingling in the shoulder, too," coach John Harbaugh said Friday. "We have a time frame on him; it's maybe a month plus. He had a surgery this week on his neck to clean things up in there."
Chicago 3.10 : The Chicago Bears suspended Tommie Harris for Sunday's game against the Detroit Lions. Coach Lovie Smith said Thursday that the defensive tackle broke a team rule, but he didn't immediately explain what it was. Harris didn't play over the weekend against the Philadelphia Eagles due to a knee injury, but the three-time Pro Bowler had been expected to play in Detroit. Harris will be replaced by Israel Idonije, with defensive tackle Anthony Adams also getting playing time.
Cincinati 2.10 : Quarterback Carson Palmer handed off during practice Wednesday but didn't participate in plays that called for a pass, part of the plan to help his sore elbow heal. Palmer sat out a 20-12 loss to Cleveland on Sunday with a sore elbow, hurt a week earlier in a loss to the Giants. Coach Marvin Lewis plans to wait until late in the week to decide whether Palmer will play on Sunday in Dallas. Backup Ryan Fitzpatrick ran most of the plays on offense Wednesday.
Philadel. 2.10 : Brian Westbrook practiced for the second straight day Thursday. The All-Pro running back again participated in a limited fashion after sitting out last week with an ankle injury. Tight end L.J. Smith has also returned from a back injury that kept him out last week against Chicago, while defensive end Victor Abiamiri was back at practice Thursday for the first time since having surgery to repair a broken right wrist. Receiver Kevin Curtis, who has not played since having surgery for a sports hernia during the preseason, continues to improve. Pro Bowl guard Shawn Andrews sat out again with a back injury.
Oakland 1.10 : The Oakland Raiders fired Lane Kiffin just four games into his second season, ending a public feud with owner Al Davis that had been simmering since the start of the year. Kiffin had a 5-15 record since being hired last year, losing his final game 28-18 on Sunday to San Diego. The Raiders said Kiffin was fired for cause, meaning they will likely try not to pay him for the remainder of his contract. Meanwhile, they have promoted offensive line coach Tom Cable to interim head coach.
Pittsbur. 30.9 : The Pittsburgh Steelers lost starting right guard Kendall Simmons and first-round draft pick Rashard Mendenhall to season-ending injuries during their 23-20 overtime victory over Baltimore on Monday. Running back Carey Davis also suffered an ankle injury and backup linebacker Andre Frazier was carted off the field on a stretcher with a spine problem. Fourth-string running back Mewelde Moore may have to start Sunday at Jacksonville if Pro Bowl runner Willie Parker misses a second successive game with a sprained knee.
