Laurent Blanc: Girondins de Bordeaux Have Potential To Shock Bayern Munich

Ligue 1 champions Girondins de Bordeaux have the ability to shock Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich, according to head coach Laurent Blanc, who qualified such an assertion by stating that his men will have to be totally focused on the task at hand.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference, Blanc stated that his side had been “lacking humility” when they crashed to defeats in the Le Championnat against Saint-Etienne and most recently against Auxerre, who beat les Girondins 1-0 at the weekend.

“We cannot afford to make such errors here, in the Champions League,” he told the assembled media. “We know that if we are guilty of committing them, there is no chance of winning.”

Bayern have not gone particularly smoothly in their domestic championship, but Blanc is not fooled by their relatively mediocre form.

“With the Germans it’s always the same; you think you will win, but you lose,” he said. “They are hard, very hard. That’s the German game.”

Blanc does not believe, however, that a positive result is impossible for his side, insisting, “If we’re a Bordeaux of valour out there, we’ll be able to embarrass them. Otherwise, there is no hope.”

Les Girondins are currently second in Champions League Group A, locked with their German counterparts on four points. Juventus are third with two marks, so victory on Wednesday night would take the Frenchmen to the brink of qualification.
