Chelsea Midfielder Frank Lampard Targets 100 England Caps

Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard has stated his desire to win 100 caps for England. Lampard made his debut for the Three Lions ten years ago against Belgium, and won his 75th cap in the 1-0 defeat to Ukraine on Saturday.

However, the player would gladly swap reaching the personal milestone for an England victory at next summer's World Cup in South Africa. "I want to make it 100," he said, according to Press Association Sport.

"I am determined to try and do that.

"I have enjoyed every cap I have got and am very proud to have reached that level because I never thought I would get that number when I won my first cap ten years ago.

"It doesn't seem like ten years. I will try and carry on playing for my country and will work hard to do as much as I can for as long as I can.

"If it gets me to a century of caps, great – although if it gets me to a World Cup win, it would be even better."

Meanwhile, Lampard also expressed frustration at the term 'golden generation' that has been frequently applied to this group of England players.

However, he does concede that the current squad should be targeting significant success in South Africa.

"The whole 'golden generation' thing is quite frustrating for us players," he added.

"We didn't make up the term. I don't know where it got made.

"But the reason people talk about the 'golden generation' is that we have a good crop of players.

"They are very talented individuals, but we have not made the most of it. We have all held our hands up to that many times.

"Now is a great chance. I am not saying we are going to win the World Cup, but we are in better shape than we have been.

"The team is working as a unit much better than it has done in the past. We have good individuals, we are experienced, and we have World Cups behind us.

"But the proof will be in the pudding. It is up to us to take all those plus points and use them next summer."
