Romania Coach Razvan Lucescu: I Will Not Select Adrian Mutu Anymore
Romanian newspaper Libertatea has reported that Fiorentina striker Adrian Mutu was spotted in a disco a few days before the 5-0 loss to Serbia in World Cup qualifying, prompting coach Razvan Lucescu to exclude him from all future matches.
"As long as I am in charge he will no longer be selected at international level," the coach revealed, according to Calciomercato.
Meanwhile, the general manager of the national team, Ionut Lupescu, agrees with the decision.
"He has proven he does not have respect for the shirt of the national team," he said, slamming the former Juventus and Parma star.
"At the end of Saturday's match, he also left without saying goodbye to anyone and did not go to Bucharest with the rest of the team. He returned directly to Italy. Evidently, the national team is no longer a priority [for him]."
Mutu has endured a troubled season, being ordered by FIFA to pay Chelsea approximately €17 million, although that decision is currently being reassessed.
