Darren Bent Vows To Impress England Boss Fabio Capello
Despite being overlooked again by national manager Fabio Capello, Sunderland striker Darren Bent has vowed to continue his hot streak in front of goal so that he gives himself the greatest of chances to break into the England set-up.
The 24-year-old found himself as a Tottenham Hotspur outcast, but as a Black Cat he has become one of the Premier League's top goal-scorers this season - he is second only to Fernando Torres, sitting alone with seven goals.
"It's a perfect platform - it's a massive club that's going in the right direction," he said on BBC Newcastle. "If I keep scoring at the rate I'm going, I can't be ignored for long.
"I won't let my head drop - I'll keep going and trying to knock them in."
Sunderland battled to a well-earned 2-2 draw against Manchester United, and could have secured the win had it not been for a late own goal struck by Anton Ferdinand. Next in line for Steve Bruce's men is Liverpool.
Bent continued: "We've got nothing to fear. We've gone to Manchester United and done really well. If we play the football we can do then we can beat them.
"Jamie Carragher is one of the toughest players I've played against in the Premier League.
"But we've got several avenues to score goals and if we play well, the crowd will get behind us and we can beat them.
