Per Mertesacker Leaves Werder Bremen Training Injured
Werder Bremen defender Per Mertesacker was forced to leave Tuesday training after about an hour, and he probably had other ways to celebrate his 25th birthday in mind.
The German international collided with a team-mate and received a cut above his right eye, which had to be stitched up.
"I don't think it will slow him down so much that he cannot train tomorrow," said head coach Thomas Schaaf on the official Werder website.
Meanwhile, midfielder Tim Borowski could not take part in the training session because of back pain. It remains unclear whether the former Bayern midfielder will be available for the Europa League game against Athletic Bilbao on Thursday.
Full-back Clemens Fritz will be match fit in time for the game against the Spaniards, while Sebastian Boenisch is doubtful due to a thigh injury.
