Werder Bremen To Face Athletic Bilbao Without Sebastian Boenisch & Tim Borowski
German outfit Werder Bremen will be without left-back Sebastian Boenisch and midfielder Tim Borowski when they lock horns with Spanish side Athletic Bilbao on Thursday evening in the Europa League.
Boenisch sustained a thigh injury during last weekend's 3-0 league victory against Mainz. However, his injury grew more serious during Monday's training session, when he was on the receiving end of a bad tackle again.
Borowski was forced to sit out of Wednesday's training session due to a back problem and Werder's medical staff have now taken the decision to rule the former Bayern Munich midfielder out of the Europa League clash against Athletic.
Things look better, however, for Torsten Frings. Werder's 32-year-old captain had to break off early from Wednesday afternoon's final training with a foot issue, but he will lace his boots up against Bilbao.
"I took a hit in a normal challenge. It got a bit swollen. But I don't think it's too bad," the midfielder told the club's official website.
